Can the Public Institution “Plačiajuostis internetas” install a fiber-optic connection to my home?
The Public Institution “Plačiajuostis internetas”, through the implementation of the projects “Broadband Infrastructure of Information Technology in Rural Areas RAIN” (RAIN), “Development of the Broadband Infrastructure of Information Technology in Rural Areas RAIN” (RAIN-2), and “Development of Broadband Infrastructure in Rural Areas” (PRIP), aims to connect settlements to the fiber-optic network and establish connection points from which operators can further develop their infrastructure within settlements and install connections to private households.
There is a section of the RAIN network installed near my settlement. What should I do to get fiber-optic internet in my settlement?
First, you should find out whether your settlement is included in the list of settlements planned to be connected under the projects implemented by the Public Institution “Plačiajuostis internetas” (you can find it here).
Possible scenarios: If you find your settlement on the list, you can contact retail communication service providers operating in that area regarding the possibility of obtaining fiber-optic internet services. When contacting them, it is recommended to indicate the number of potential clients (households). If it turns out that your settlement is not included in the list, you should contact a communication operator providing internet services in your region. All communication operators can use the network managed by the Public Institution “Plačiajuostis internetas”. After assessing its network capabilities, the operator would contact the Public Institution “Plačiajuostis internetas” regarding interconnection of networks and would install a fiber-optic line from the RAIN network connection point to your desired location. Internet connectivity would then be provided through the interconnected network segments. If it turns out that your settlement is not included in the list and you receive a negative response from retail service providers, you should prepare a free-form collective request outlining the reasons why the settlement should be included in the next stage of the RAIN network development (e.g., the settlement has an active community, many families with school-age children who would like to have internet access at home, there are places of interest that could attract visitors, etc.). The request should be sent to the Public Institution “Plačiajuostis internetas” — when compiling the list of objects to be connected in the next stage of the RAIN network infrastructure development, your settlement may be included if possible.
How can I find out whether you have a fiber-optic connection at the location I am interested in?
You can find the list of fiber-optic connections of the Public Institution “Plačiajuostis internetas” here. For more detailed information, please contact [email protected]
