Investment project "Development of 5G communication in international transport corridors (“Via Baltica”, “Rail Baltica”)"

On 2020 June 3, the guidelines of the Republic of Lithuania's fifth generation mobile communication (5G) development plan for 2020-2025 were approved, ensuring an even, economically justified, and efficient development of 5G communication, stating that the implementation of 5G communication in Lithuania should be started in 2021 and developed throughout the territory of the state, starting with the largest cities and strategic objects of the state.

Until 2025 it is planned to cover the most significant land transport corridors and urban areas with ultra-fast mobile communication. It is intended that 5G communication should be developed (commercial 5G communication services have been launched):

• until 2022 in at least one of the five largest cities of the Republic of Lithuania in terms of population - Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai or Panevėžys;
• until 2023 in the five largest cities of the Republic of Lithuania in terms of population;
• until 2025 in urban areas, international land transport corridors ("Via Baltica", "Rail Baltica") and other highways, highways of national significance, and air and sea ports.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania allocated funding and commissioned the Public Enterprise "Plačiajuostis internetas" to prepare the investment project "Development of 5G communication in international transport corridors (Via Baltica, Rail Baltica)".

We inform you that the public procurement "Preparation of the investment project "Development of 5G communication in international transport corridors (Via Baltica, Rail Baltica)" has been announced, and potential providers are invited to actively participate.

To ensure constant communication and cooperation during the preparation of an investment project, the Public Enterprise “Plačiajuostis internetas” formed a working group. The order can be found here.

Public consultations are expected during the project preparation and implementation. We will invite all interested entities to take an active interest in and participate in the implementation of this project.
