Investment Project "Development of Next Generation Access Infrastructure"

On September 7, 2010, the European Commission approved the communique "Digital Agenda for Europe". It sets ambitious rolling targets for Europe's further digital development. Broadband target indicators: until 2020 high-speed broadband must be provided - all EU citizens must have access to 30 Mbps or faster broadband. The main problem was indicated in the 2014-2020 program of rural development of Lithuania - existing differences between urban and rural residents' ability to use high-speed Internet connection and the insufficiently satisfied rural residents' need to have broadband Internet access in all rural areas and the provision of public electronic services. The solution to the mentioned problem is to install the missing broadband infrastructure in areas where it is needed, but installation of missing part of the infrastructure for different operators requires enormous investments.

To achieve the above-mentioned goals, the development of new generation access is needed, for the implementation of which it is necessary to prepare a new generation Internet access development investment project (NKP IP). During the NKP IP, the development of the new generation of Internet access is implemented according to the Republic of Lithuania 2014-2020 plan measure 1.1.1. "To develop next-generation internet access infrastructure by building towers and laying fiber optic cable lines in white areas of the country."

The project is partially funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
