The project "Development of Next Generation Access Infrastructure" has been recognized in the European Commission awards

The project “Development of Next Generation Access Infrastructure” was recognized as one of the top three projects in the category “Innovative Financing, Business and Investment Models” at the Broadband Awards 2023, organized by the European Commission.
The awards ceremony took place on November 21, 2023, in Brussels, honoring projects selected by an independent jury across five categories.
As part of the “Development of Next Generation Access Infrastructure” project, 1,235 km of fiber-optic cable infrastructure was deployed and connected to the existing more than 11,000 km national fiber-optic network managed by the public institution “Plačiajuostis internetas.” Additionally, 25 communication towers were built across 20 municipalities, 310 existing infrastructure sites were connected to the network, and the necessary network equipment was installed to provide wholesale connectivity services in rural areas of Lithuania.
During the project implementation, access to the next-generation network was made possible for approximately 47,390 households in so-called “white areas” and for about 273,880 households nationwide.
In the long term, the infrastructure and capabilities developed through the “Development of Next Generation Access Infrastructure” project are expected to positively impact business innovation and competitiveness, labor market demand, household incomes, social mobility and inclusion, and self-learning opportunities in underserved areas.
The project was implemented under the Measure No. 02.1.1-CPVA-V-521 “Development of Next Generation Access” of the Priority 2 “Promotion of Information Society” of the 2014–2020 EU Structural Funds Investment Operational Programme, administered by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania.
The project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
