Ultra-Fast Connectivity project nears completion
The objectives of the project “Ultra-Fast Connectivity Infrastructure,” implemented on the initiative of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, have been successfully achieved. More than 5,000 entities - including educational institutions, libraries, healthcare facilities, and businesses located in commercially less attractive areas of Lithuania, have been enabled to benefit from ultra-fast internet access.
“Thousands of people and businesses have gained new opportunities to work, live, and attract investment. Fast and reliable connectivity will enable remote work, learning, and access to public and healthcare services without leaving home. These are real changes that strengthen our regions and reduce the digital divide,” says Minister of Transport and Communications Juras Taminskas.
During the implementation of the project, infrastructure has been developed to provide access to gigabit-speed broadband connectivity for more than 5,000 entities contributing to social and economic progress. This infrastructure ensures that even in the most remote parts of the country, educational institutions, libraries, hospitals, fire stations, businesses, and other entities can access data transmission speeds of no less than 1 Gbps.
Approximately 1,400 km of fiber-optic cable lines have been laid, existing infrastructure facilities have been connected, and modern telecommunications equipment has been installed to ensure network stability and capacity.
The infrastructure created will be open to all telecommunications operators in the country for the provision of advanced digital services. This will allow connected entities to freely choose their service provider and receive services tailored to their individual needs.
The development of gigabit-speed broadband infrastructure is aimed at meeting the rapidly growing expectations of users of communication services in Lithuania’s regions and enabling access to high-capacity electronic communications networks and very high-quality digital services.
The project “Ultra-Fast Connectivity Infrastructure” is funded under the Economic Recovery and Resilience Plan “New Generation Lithuania.”
