The public institution Plačiajuostis internetas, implementing the project “Development of Ultra-High-Speed Connectivity Infrastructure”, has signed 60 contracts for the design and construction of telecommunications towers, with a total value of EUR 20 million (including VAT). The works will be carried out by UAB Enersense and UAB Connecto Lietuva.

This project is intended to ensure access to ultra-high-speed connectivity for households and businesses in areas where market participants are unable to ensure infrastructure development and service provision.

“60 new telecommunications towers mean more opportunities for residents of the regions. This development signifies not only faster and more reliable internet connectivity - it is an opportunity to communicate with loved ones, work, and study directly from home in rural areas. At the same time, it is an opportunity to create businesses and a future in the regions,” says Minister of Transport and Communications Juras Taminskas.

According to Gytis Liaugminas, Director of the public institution Plačiajuostis internetas, the signing of these contracts is an important step in ensuring that ultra-high-speed connectivity services reach Lithuania’s rural and remote areas. This will not only improve connectivity quality for residents but also encourage business development in the regions.

It is planned that the design and construction works of the telecommunications towers will take place in several stages. First, detailed design documents will be prepared, covering the specification of technical solutions. After these works are completed, the construction phase will begin, during which the telecommunications towers will be built and all necessary communications infrastructure equipment installed. Once the towers are constructed, mobile and wireless network operators will be able to install antennas and provide services to businesses and residents.

Upon implementation of the planned project activities, ultra-high-speed connectivity access is planned to be provided to 14,909 households and 1,348 companies, and opportunities will be created for 138 electronic communications service providers to use the infrastructure developed during the project. During the preparation of the investment project, it was determined that in order to provide ultra-high-speed connectivity access to the target entities, 63 new telecommunications towers would need to be built and the equipment necessary for the functionality of the communications infrastructure installed.

“By participating in this project, we are contributing to the development of national digital infrastructure. Our team is committed to ensuring that the telecommunications towers are built in compliance with the highest quality, safety, and sustainability requirements, and that the implemented technological solutions guarantee long-term infrastructure reliability and value,” says Viktoras Saldžiūnas, Acting CEO of UAB Enersense.

“This project is a real step toward reducing the digital divide in Lithuania, and we are pleased to be part of it. By implementing the telecommunications tower construction works, we will ensure that residents of remote areas can start using reliable and fast connectivity as soon as possible,” says Tomas Kulbis, Director of UAB Connecto Lietuva.

Following the implementation of the project, significant changes are expected: increased connectivity speeds in rural and remote areas; opportunities for private operators to provide services in commercially unattractive locations; and increased attractiveness of regions for both residents and businesses.

The project value exceeds EUR 30 million. It is financed by the 2021–2027 European Union funds and co-financing funds. All works are planned to be completed by April 2027.
