Launch of the "Ultra-Fast Connectivity Infrastructure" project
In order to reduce the digital divide, Plačiajuostis Internetas is taking the first steps towards the implementation of the project "Ultra-fast Connectivity Infrastructure".
On 14 February 2024, a financing agreement was signed, which will allow the start of work on the "Ultra High Speed Infrastructure" project.
The aim of the "Ultra High Speed Connectivity Infrastructure" project is to provide access to gigabit broadband to those driving socio-economic progress and to data service providers in the "white spots". Meanwhile, 5 000 entities are expected to have access to gigabit speeds in rural or remote areas.
According to Gyitis Liaugminas, Director of the public body, the project will develop the electronic communications infrastructure in commercially unattractive areas, thus improving digital connectivity and making these areas more attractive to digitally-intensive businesses.
In order to achieve the project's objective, the gigabit broadband infrastructure necessary to connect the socio-economic progress drivers will be installed and the equipment necessary for the functionality of the communication infrastructure will be installed.
The project is also expected to bring about qualitative changes. This will include an increase in gigabit broadband access in rural or remote areas. It will also enable private operators to provide services in commercially unattractive areas. It will also improve the operating environment for those promoting socio-economic progress, thereby also making rural or remote areas more attractive to others.
