Public Institution “Plačiajuostis internetas” presents its 2025 Sustainability Report

The Public Institution “Plačiajuostis internetas” has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, presenting the organisation’s key achievements in the areas of environmental protection, social responsibility and good governance. The report highlights how, through the development of broadband infrastructure in Lithuania, the organisation contributes not only to reducing the digital divide but also to the country’s sustainable development.

In 2025, the Public Institution “Plačiajuostis internetas” continued the implementation of two strategically important projects – “Ultra-Fast Broadband Infrastructure” (ISRI) and “Development of Ultra-Fast Broadband Infrastructure” (ISRI-2). During the year, more than 777 km of new fibre-optic lines were installed, bringing the total length deployed under the ISRI project to more than 861 km. Access to ultra-fast internet connectivity was made available to 2,580 socio-economic drivers. Under the ISRI-2 project, contracts were signed for the construction and technical maintenance of 60 telecommunications towers.

Environmental protection remained a key priority. The report notes that the organisation is consistently reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving energy efficiency. In 2025, both direct and indirect emissions decreased, while energy consumption per standardised service was lower than planned. Direct (Scope 1) emissions fell to 66.8 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, while indirect (Scope 2) emissions decreased to 1,307.3 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent. Total emissions across all scopes decreased by as much as 76.1% compared with the 2023 baseline. These results were supported by network optimisation, more efficient cooling systems, the increasing use of low-emission vehicles and other technological measures.

The achievement of sustainability objectives is also supported by the introduction of innovative solutions. In 2025, optical signal filters enabling more efficient use of existing infrastructure were successfully tested, while the deployment of next-generation uninterruptible power supply systems equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries was also launched. These solutions help improve network reliability, reduce operating costs and enhance service quality.

In the area of social responsibility, the organisation continued to focus on employee safety, professional development and organisational culture. Employee training programmes were continued, the safety culture was further strengthened, dialogue with employees and partners was maintained, and stakeholders were actively involved in operational planning.

In the area of governance, particular attention was paid in 2025 to transparency, risk management and strengthening the anti-corruption environment. The organisation continued to operate in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 37001 standards, implemented internal audit recommendations and further strengthened the principles of responsible governance.

The Sustainability Report reflects the commitment of the Public Institution “Plačiajuostis internetas” to combining technological progress with responsible use of resources and transparent governance. The organisation plans to continue investing in innovation, reducing its environmental impact and expanding ultra-fast broadband infrastructure to ensure access to high-quality electronic communications services throughout Lithuania.
