Ultra-Fast Connectivity Infrastructure project completed

At the initiative of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania, the Public Institution “Plačiajuostis internetas” has completed the implementation of the “Ultra-Fast Connectivity Infrastructure” project. The infrastructure developed under the project provides access to gigabit connectivity for 5,983 socio-economic drivers across 52 municipalities in Lithuania.
In Vilnius District Municipality, 584 socio-economic drivers have been connected to the ultra-fast broadband infrastructure, with a similar number – 582 – connected in Vilkaviškis District Municipality. A further 321 entities have been connected in Klaipėda District Municipality, 442 in Alytus District Municipality and 436 in Kaunas District Municipality.
More than 100 entities have also been connected in each of the district municipalities of Šilalė, Molėtai, Utena, Šiauliai, Šilutė, Tauragė, Šakiai, Trakai, Telšiai, Zarasai, Rokiškis, Jonava, Kaišiadorys, Prienai and Kėdainiai.
The infrastructure developed under the project ensures that educational institutions, libraries, hospitals, fire stations, businesses and other socio-economic drivers, including those operating in the most remote regions of the country, can benefit from data transmission speeds of at least 1 gigabit per second.
As part of the project, the fibre-optic infrastructure was expanded, with 1,395 km of fibre-optic cable lines deployed. Existing infrastructure facilities were connected to the network, while network capacity was enhanced through the installation of modern telecommunications equipment. These solutions have made it possible to ensure stable and reliable high-speed data transmission.
Of the nearly 6,000 connected entities, more than half access ultra-fast connectivity via 5G technology, while the remainder are connected via fibre-optic cable. The combined expansion of fibre-optic infrastructure and 5G technology has made it possible to provide improved connectivity to a larger number of users. In addition, households located within areas benefiting from enhanced 5G coverage will also experience improved connectivity.
The infrastructure developed under the project enables all telecommunications operators in Lithuania to provide services using the network. This means that connected entities can choose between different service providers and select the connectivity services that best meet their needs and expectations.
The “Ultra-Fast Connectivity Infrastructure” project is funded under Lithuania’s Recovery and Resilience Plan “New Generation Lithuania”.
