On Thursday, April 3, 2025, representatives of the public institution “Plačiajuostis internetas” participated in the international conference “The Future of Connectivity: from Telco to Techco”, organized by the Communications Regulatory Authority (RRT).

The conference focused on the ongoing transformation within the telecommunications sector — one of the most significant shifts in recent decades — the transition from the traditional Telco model to a broader technology ecosystem (Techco). During the event, speakers and representatives from various fields discussed major technological developments, geopolitical challenges, the resilience of communication infrastructure, and emerging trends in future technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, eSIM, quantum computing, satellites, the Internet of Things, and more, along with potential solutions to the challenges these innovations bring.

G. Liaugminas, director of “Plačiajuostis internetas”, took part in a panel discussion titled “Gigabit Society: How to Connect People, Businesses, and Nations?” together with representatives from government institutions, municipalities, and the private sector. The discussion addressed issues related to connectivity infrastructure, faster development, and collaboration. Panelists explored how to balance the interests of communities, municipalities, and network operators, shared their expectations, and discussed practical ways to tackle the challenges ahead.

"To effectively develop last-mile connectivity infrastructure, we should consider the introduction of an additional funding model that involves all stakeholders — the state, businesses, and end users. It is also essential to reduce construction costs and improve the efficiency of regulatory procedures," said G. Liaugminas.

A. Romanovskis, President of the Business Confederation, and S. Černiauskas, Head of Infobalt, highlighted Lithuania’s competitive strengths, such as its well-developed infrastructure, innovation, talent, green energy, and more. R. Rakauskas, Advisor to the Association of Lithuanian Municipalities, emphasized the role of municipalities in balancing the interests of business, the state, and local communities as one of the biggest challenges.

The discussion also covered topics such as ensuring network security, service continuity, and resilience in a complex geopolitical environment.

The conference was also attended by representatives of the Ukrainian Communications Regulatory Authority and KyivStar, who shared their experiences with maintaining connectivity during wartime. They presented the rapid solutions developed through cooperation with all stakeholders and provided practical advice on preparing for potential threats.
