The first socially and economically significant sites have been reached as part of the “Ultra-Fast Connectivity Infrastructure” project
Digital exclusion remains one of the key challenges to ensuring equal access to modern technologies across the country.
To help reduce this gap and improve access to high-quality internet services in rural and remote areas, the public institution “Plačiajuostis internetas” is implementing the “Ultra-Fast Connectivity Infrastructure” project. The aim of the project is to ensure gigabit-speed broadband access for entities that promote social and economic progress.
By December 31, 2024, the ultra-fast connectivity infrastructure had reached 618 socially and economically significant sites located in the municipalities of Kazlų Rūda, Alytus, Jonava, Jurbarkas, Kaunas, Kėdainiai, Molėtai, Pakruojis, Panevėžys, Plungė, Prienai, Radviliškis, Šiauliai, and Zarasai.
Representatives from sectors such as business, healthcare, education, social services, and others will be able to benefit from the infrastructure developed during the project. The list of currently connected sites includes 578 business entities, 15 community centers, 4 libraries, 4 medical institutions, 15 infrastructure facilities, 1 school, and 1 social care institution.
“Companies, schools, healthcare facilities, and other institutions will be able to collaborate more effectively, share information, and take advantage of digital innovations. We believe that connecting these sites to high-speed internet infrastructure will have a positive impact not only on their day-to-day operations but also on the broader community, which will benefit from faster and more reliable services,” said Donatas Bernatonis, Head of the Network and Technology Development Department.
Once these and additional works are completed by telecom operators, end users will be able to access modern, gigabit-speed broadband services, enhancing both public services and everyday life.
The project is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility under the “Next Generation Lithuania” plan.
